The artist, Maureen J O'Neil, entered into the world of color and creativity at an early age. This eventually led her to move to NYC in the late 1970s to attend Pratt Institute and Cooper Union, as well as to study abroad.
Applying her sense of design and materials to NYC interiors, she worked in the city for thirty years owning an interior design firm. Her designs, styles, and approaches were as unique as her clients. At times, she executed paintings for these interiors.
Turning a page ten years ago, she left her interior design practice and has since focused on her painting. She uses a wide variety of materials, styles, and perceptions.
Her works capture moments from the past, serving as a way for her to process memories and experiences.
As you view the collection, you may ask yourself, is this the art of a single artist? You will observe an artist who has "let go" of the preconception that an artist needs to have an identity in a recognizable style. The artist also asks the viewer to "let go" of their expectations of conformity while viewing the pieces.
